The famous nutritionist Mikhail Ginzburg emphasizes that even such a popular natural product as honey requires strict moderation. According to him, the maximum permissible daily intake is about three teaspoons.
The specialist explains that honey is a strong food allergen. A reaction to it can occur at any age, even if a person previously consumed honey without any consequences. In addition, the product contains a large amount of natural sugars, so Ginzburg considers the opinion that honey is an unconditionally healthy replacement for regular sugar to be erroneous.
Taking into account the possible risks, the nutritionist outlined safe consumption amounts. Healthy people without chronic diseases are recommended to limit themselves to two to three teaspoons per day. For those who have health problems, no more than one spoon is allowed.
For obesity, diabetes, atherosclerosis or high blood pressure, honey, according to the doctor, should be consumed strictly in doses – a maximum of one teaspoon per day. For people prone to allergic reactions, even if they do not have a confirmed allergy to honey, it is better to limit themselves to half a teaspoon per day.
At the same time, Ginzburg notes that honey can be especially useful during the period of recovery from illness, with general weakness and exhaustion. Thanks to its high content of carbohydrates and biologically active substances, it helps to quickly restore energy and vitality.
However, the expert also draws attention to the hidden danger to the digestive system. Honey contains organic acids and components that can irritate the gastric mucosa. If consumed in excess, it can provoke the development of gastritis or even peptic ulcers, so the principle of moderation is especially important here.
