.NETWORKIsrael Chronicle - IsraelZelensky introduced severe punishment for anti-Semitism in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has tightened legislation, introducing criminal liability for manifestations of anti-Semitism – the maximum penalty can reach eight years in prison.

Anti-Semitic acts now carry both fines and up to five years’ imprisonment, depending on the severity of the offence. The maximum penalty—up to eight years in prison—is provided for in cases where the crime was committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy or led to grave consequences.

The decision was made symbolically against the backdrop of Holocaust Remembrance Day in Israel.

As already reported, Vladimir Zelensky met with rabbis from different cities and representatives of Jewish communities on the occasion of the holiday Pesach. During the meeting, he thanked the Jewish community for supporting the country, emphasizing the importance of unity in the fight for freedom, helping people, supporting communities and praying for the state.

Earlier, Kursor wrote that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that after the start of the operation against Iran, Jerusalem did not turn to Kyiv for support. According to him, during this period, some other countries contacted Ukraine with requests for help, but there were no such initiatives from Israel.

He also noted that over the past two years he has not maintained a dialogue with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and emphasized that the decision on interaction with Ukraine depends on the Israeli side. He noted that both sides remain mutually interested in developing cooperation.
