Paris is relying on strategic partnerships in infrastructure and technology to help shape the economic framework of the global tournament.
Rabat – France is signaling massive economic interest in the 2030 FIFA World Cup in Morocco, which the North African kingdom will co-host with Spain and Portugal. During an official visit to Rabat, the French State Secretary for Foreign Trade, Nicolas Forissier, reiterated the goal of significantly strengthening bilateral cooperation in the areas of infrastructure, industry and large-scale projects. Accompanied by a delegation of around 30 business representatives, Forissier sought direct exchange with Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the “Morocco 2030” Foundation.
Focus on infrastructure and high technology
According to Mr. Forissier, the planned collaboration focuses on four strategic pillars: mobility, information technology (IT), accommodation and the general sports industry. France would like to contribute its know-how, particularly in the IT sector and digital infrastructure planning. In this context, State Secretary Fouzi Lekjaa emphasized the mutual understanding between economic players in both countries that has developed over the years. The companies are already familiar with the Moroccan “roadmap” for the tournament, which enables the projects to be implemented efficiently.
Exchange of expert knowledge and specialist workshops
A central element of the French offensive is the transfer of experience from hosting the 1998 World Cup. France is positioning itself as an experienced partner that can support Morocco in overcoming the logistical and organizational challenges. Gérard Wolf, Vice President of Medef International, also announced the formation of a Franco-Moroccan committee. Details in the areas of mobility and sports economics will be worked out in topic-specific workshops as soon as possible, since, according to Mr. Wolf, there is already a need for action given the deadline in 2030.
Economic dynamism through political rapprochement
This increased cooperation comes in the context of intensive diplomatic coordination between Paris and Rabat. The now stable relations between the heads of state serve as the foundation for the current economic decisions. As Morocco uses the 2030 World Cup as a catalyst for national development and modernization, the French economy sees the opportunity to reposition itself as a preferred partner in the Maghreb through long-term investments and technological cooperation. The upcoming Football World Cup will act as a motor for a deeper fusion of markets and know-how.
