Tehran roadblocks still under fire as US, Israel seek to trigger revolt

As Israel and the US seek to encourage Iranians to rise up against the Islamic regime, they have continued to hit internal security targets in and around Tehran with drones, according to video footage shared with Euractiv.

The video shows a checkpoint run by the Basij militia in Tehran as it was struck on Friday.

Explosions were heard across the city, as at least three roadblocks were destroyed, including at a checkpoint on Shahed Street in northern Tehran, and one near the Imam Reza Highway, according to Western security officials. The number of casualties is still unknown.

Euractiv could not independently authenticate the video, but it was consistent with local reports of a string of attacks.

Earlier this week, the US-Israeli operation destroyed the headquarters and outposts of Iran’s vast internal security apparatus in a wave of strikes across the country. In this latest phase, they have targeted individual roadblocks with small drones, often with the help of locals who report the exact location of Basij checkpoints, according to the officials.

The hope in Washington and Jerusalem is that the attacks will spur Iranians to take to the streets again as they did in the mass protests in January that led to a brutal crackdown. So far, they have failed to do so, however.
