Alisson names surprise teammate who motivates him – “He’s a winner for that”

.NETWORKIsrael Chronicle - SportsAlisson names surprise teammate who motivates him – “He’s a winner for that”

Alisson has named Federico Chiesa as the teammate who makes him “go further,” underlining the energy the Italian brings to the team, whether he starts or not.

Chiesa has played only 658 minutes for Liverpool so far this season despite being unavailable for only four games due to injury or illness, but he remains a hugely popular figure in the dressing room.

The Italian is an energiser despite his lack of minutes under Arne Slot, and that was celebrated by Alisson when he was asked by the Premier League who plays the best supporting role at the club.

“Someone really special in our team that supports me a lot and makes me go further is Federico Chiesa,” Alisson revealed.

“He brings energy to the team, even when he’s not playing, but when he plays, he always makes a difference on the pitch for the team, no matter what he needs to do.

“He is a winner for that.”

Perhaps a surprise teammate to motivate Alisson considering their different roles, but the pair do share a common language of Italian, which the goalkeeper learned during his time at Roma.

But Alisson‘s words do highlight the important role players like Chiesa have in the dressing room, someone who can lift the mood despite their personal disappointment at a lack of minutes.

It is also why the 28-year-old is highly regarded among the supporter base, as he champions the team as they would either in the stands, on the bench, or on the pitch.

Will Federico Chiesa be at Liverpool next season?

Chiesa is contracted until 2028, but he could be nearing the end of his Anfield career, having played a peripheral role since arriving the same summer Slot took over.

He has been consistently linked with a transfer back to Italy and you expect Liverpool would be unlikely to stand in his way if an offer suited both the club and the player.

Juventus were strongly linked in January, but there was no option for a move as Liverpool ruled out any deals for senior players.

Liverpool will likely make at least one attacking addition in the summer window, with pace on the wings an obvious need to address.

As for Alisson, he has had his one-year extension on his contract triggered by Liverpool, meaning the club will retain the Brazilian until 2027.
