Is Maverick McNealy’s family wealthy? Roots of American golfer often dubbed ‘richer than Tiger Woods’

.NETWORKShorouk - SportsIs Maverick McNealy's family wealthy? Roots of American golfer often dubbed 'richer than Tiger Woods'

Maverick McNealy is often mentioned in an unusual conversation in golf circles. Not about swing changes or Ryder Cup hopes, but about wealth. The American pro, currently competing at the 2026 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am comes from a family fortune that has led some to jokingly label him “richer than Tiger Woods.”

While Tiger Woods remains golf’s only confirmed billionaire through career earnings, endorsements and business ventures McNealy’s financial background tells a different kind of story. His wealth is tied not to prize money, but to Silicon Valley.

Thanks for the submission!

McNealy is the son of Scott McNealy, co-founder of Sun Microsystems. The tech company, launched in 1982 was later sold to Oracle Corporation in 2010 for $7.4 billion. That deal cemented the McNealy family’s place among America’s wealthiest tech dynasties.

Maverick grew up in Palo Alto in a 28,000 square foot estate reportedly valued at around $86 million. Despite that environment, he has previously said he was not simply handed money. His father expected him to work summer jobs and has even suggested he would have charged him rent after college.

Still, Maverick McNealy’s story is not limited to inheritance. He has made more than $21 million on the PGA Tour so far with his first victory coming at the 2024 RSM Classic.

How is Maverick McNealy playing at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am?

Maverick McNealy has made a steady start in his fourth event of the 2026 season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, getting through the opening two rounds on split courses.

He began at Pebble Beach Golf Links and kept the card clean. McNealy signed for a five under 67 without dropping a shot, mixing in five birdies to put himself in a strong early position.

Round 2 at Spyglass Hill told a different story. He again made five birdies, but five bogeys wiped out the gains, leaving him with an even par 72 for the day. Through 36 holes, it has been a week of solid stretches with a few loose swings costing him momentum.

His Pebble Beach outing continues what has been a consistent run to start the year. McNealy opened 2026 with a T24 finish at the Sony Open in Hawaii at seven under par. He followed that with a tie for 10th at the Farmers Insurance Open at 13 under, and then posted a T13 at the WM Phoenix Open at 11 under.

With the weekend now at Pebble Beach, Maverick McNealy will try to build on his opening round and move closer to contention
