Inadequate accommodation, training facilities and concern for the safety of Senegal’s players. The association expresses its criticism in a press release.
Rabat – Immediately before the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2025/2026) tomorrow, Sunday (January 18, 2026) between hosts Morocco and Senegal, the sporting atmosphere is tense. In an official press release from the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football (FSF), the “Lions of Teranga” accuse the local organizing committee of neglecting sporting fairness and safety.
Criticism of a lack of professionalism
In its letter from Friday, the Senegalese association complained about serious deficits. The team’s arrival at Rabat train station was chaotic due to a lack of security precautions, which exposed the players to unnecessary stress. It is also reported that it was only after a formal protest that appropriate accommodation in a 5-star hotel could be secured.
Point of contention: home advantage vs. neutrality
The allocation of the training area is causing particular dissatisfaction. The FSF refuses to prepare for the final at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé. Since this is the exclusive base camp of the Moroccan national team, Senegal sees equal opportunities violated. Instead, the association demands a neutral location in order to be able to prepare without the influence of the opponent.
Dissatisfaction with ticket allocation
In addition, Senegal criticizes the number of tickets made available. Although around 2,850 tickets were made available for Senegalese fans, the association describes this as insufficient given the enormous importance of the final and the large local following. The small number of guest of honor places (VVIP) also met with incomprehension.
Sporty focus despite discontent
While Senegal’s criticism makes it clear that they feel unfairly treated in the run-up to the final, the team’s goal remains clear: success against Morocco. Morocco, in turn, is trying to maintain organizational sovereignty. When the kick-off sounds tomorrow at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, it will be seen whether Senegal can convert this anger into positive energy on the pitch or whether the hosts can secure tournament victory in their own country.
